Carolyn Breuer & Andrea Hermenau
Two sensitive, multi-award-winning Munich power women have joined forces: saxophonist Carolyn Breuer, who has caused an international sensation with many of her own projects such as “Four Seasons Of Life” or “Shoot The Piano Player”, and pianist and singer Andrea Hermenau, who became known through bands such as “Etna” and “Die Drei Damen”, was nominated for the BMW Jazz Award with her quintet in 2020 and received the City of Munich’s Music Prize in 2021.
In April 23, they released their first CD together entitled “Oneironaut” on the label Enja Records and were nominated for the German Critic’s award.
After the importance of mental and emotional oases for people became enormously clear during the Corona period due to contact and travel restrictions, they composed music together to give people the opportunity to dream themselves into other worlds, like a oneironaut who can steer their lucid dreams into the positive.
The result is elegant music that is full of poetry but also power. Carolyn Breuer’s saxophone and Andrea Hermenau’s voice, which she knows how to use almost instrumentally, circle around each other in imaginatively arranged original compositions – they nestle together and skillfully drift apart again.
Press quotes about the album “Oneironaut”:
” ‘Oneironaut’ is a saxophone album, piano album and vocal album in equal measure – and strong from start to finish.”
JazzThing
“Both saxophone and piano captivate the ear with their improvisational imagination.”
JazzThing
“An album that skillfully narrates, a finely woven musical work of art, airy-light and dreamily floating.”
Concerto
“soulmusic”
Jazzthetik
“The ten original pieces by Breuer and Hermenau plus Victor Young’s ‘My foolish heart’ as a brilliant opener are very fine jazz with a dreamlike extra: Andrea Hermenau’s sugar-sweet voice (…). By the following Polarstern (…) at the latest, you sink at the feet of the successful concept (…) – and want more, because this is pure poetry.”
Musenblätter
“wonderful album“, “highly enjoyable”
